Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a life changing disease that effects millions of people worldwide.
There are many things you can do to maintain your quality of life and live well with PD. The Y is proud to offer programs geared at improving participant's movement and walking.
+ Rocksteady Boxing
Rock Steady Boxing to provide an innovative approach to combating Parkinson's. By combining boxing training with specific exercises for Parkinson's, studies have shown that symptoms can be reversed, reduced, or delayed. Boxing engages the body in various movements and continuously adapts the workout routine.
This program is made possible thanks to a generous community grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation. We are delighted to offer this program to you at no cost until the funds are fully utilized.

Program Details:
- Evidence-based program
- Supportive environment
- Led by certified Rock Steady Boxing coaches
- Two 60-minute classes per week
- Non-contact boxing drills
- Conditioning exercises for optimal muscular endurance, agility, hand-eye coordination and overall strength
- Emphasis on gross motor movement, balance, core strength, posture and gait
- Regular physical and cognitive assessments

+ Stretch and Connect
Stretch and Connect is a 45-minute class focusing on ‘stretching and connecting’ with the Parkinson’s community. Participants will be guided through a series of ‘stretches’ that will help the individual improve and maintain flexibility, mobility, and posture. Care-takers and family members of People with Parkinson’s are encouraged to participate in this class as well.

+ Pedaling for Parkinson's
Pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace, optimally, 80-90 revolutions per minute, helps reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. During the one-hour class, an instructor on a stationary bicycle will lead participants through a relatively fast-paced cycling routine to reach the optimal cycling speed or revolutions per minute (RPM). Pedaling for Parkinson's is held two to three times a week.

+ SmartFit
YMCA SMARTfit Parkinson’s Rehab Intervention Program
The YMCA SMARTfit Parkinson’s rehab intervention program is designed to address motor coordination and vestibular health. The program combines movement with cognitive tasks in a playful way, that lead to better motor and cognitive functions.

+ Support Group for Caretakers
The YMCA of Collier County, in association with the Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida, will offer a support group for individuals and families who are impacted by Parkinson’s Disease and related illness.
Please join us for this weekly gathering to experience warmth, understanding and support. Caregiving can be an isolating experience, but you are not alone in this challenge. Being able to talk to others who truly understand what you are going through can help reduce stress, validates your experience, and provides a sense of connection.
Participation is open to all members of the Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida. Membership, and access to these sessions, is FREE. The membership application is online at www.ParkinsonAssociationSWFL.org. It takes about 10 minutes to complete.
